Yield of strawberry

Yield of strawberryThe yield of strawberries depends on the varietal composition of the plantations, and in most cases this is the main factor for obtaining permanent high yields. However, after a certain time, the strawberry bush grows and becomes more massive, even despite the correct selection of varieties. Berries, on the contrary, grow smaller, and their number becomes much less. Why is this happening and how to make the yields constant and not fall? We will find the answer to this question together.

How to increase the yield of strawberries

To restore the former yield, strawberry bushes must be rejuvenated.

  1. On male plants, a large number of mustaches appear, which eventually become larger. Naturally, they take a lot of useful juices from the plant, so you need to get rid of them.
  2. Together with the weeds from the bed, all weak and damaged plants should be removed.
  3. After the harvest is finally completed, potash and phosphorus fertilizers should be added to the strawberry plot. They should be brought in from two sides at once.

The procedure of rejuvenation and top dressing will give an excellent result as early as next year. After 2-3 years the strawberry begins the stage of active fruiting, so it is important not to let it grow into active greens. Perform work on rejuvenation immediately after harvesting. The leaves are cut with a pruner or scissors.

Also, the yield of strawberries directly depends on the quality of the soil, which must be loamy or sandy loam and necessarily rich in humus. It's a good idea to pour clean sand under the bush just before fruiting. It is obligatory to conduct regular loosening.

In hot, arid days it is recommended to water strawberries, then the berries will be delicious, juicy and sweet. But, do not overdo it, watering should be moderate.

To increase the second crop of patched strawberries, spring stems should be removed, so that nutrients will be used to ripen the second crop.

After 4 years of growth of strawberries in one place it is recommended to transplant it, as soil nutrients dry up, and as a result yields drop.

If not one of the proposed methods did not help, pay attention to the subject of infection of the plant with diseases or insects - pests.
