Top dressing of tomatoes

Top dressing of tomatoes during fruitingEveryone knows that top dressing of tomatoes positively affects their growth and development. And the main reason for this is that this culture is included in the group of leaders among vegetables, able to extract the maximum amount of nutrients from the feeding. But it is always necessary to observe the measure, since the correct approach to the cultivation of tomatoes perfectly describes the principle of "better underfeed than overfeed". Having behind me many years of tomato cultivation experience, I managed to develop my own tomato feeding system.

In the autumn, for the first time, I apply fertilizers to the soil, combining it with digging and preparing beds for a spring planting. This includes organic, phosphoric and potash fertilizers. Top dressing of tomatoes with nitrogen fertilizers I leave for spring: I carry out this operation together with loosening of previously prepared beds. In order to prevent diseases, it is necessary to conduct special watering, for which I use infusion of potassium permanganate (10 g per 10 L of water).

When it's time to plant the seedlings in a permanent place, I sprinkle the ground with ashes, because it contains all the necessary microelements.

When 2-3 weeks pass from the moment of transplanting into the soil, it's time for the first complex fertilizing. For its preparation, I use nitrogen (25 g), phosphoric (40 g) and potassium fertilizers (15 g), which I dilute in 10 liters of water. When applying top dressing, I adhere to the following rate of consumption: 0,6-0,7 l mixture for each plant.

When the plants enter a phase of intensive flowering, I apply a weed extract to the soil, which grew on my site. For the preparation of the extract I take a container of large dimensions, which I fill with previously finely chopped weeds. In addition, I make ash, bird droppings and a small amount of manure. After thoroughly mixing, I give the mixture to brew and wander for a week. The ready mix is again well mixed and I bring on 1 l on each bush.

In order for my tomatoes to visit insect pollinators, I process the bushes with a solution of sugar and boric acid. To make this treat I do the following: combine 100 g sugar with 2 g boric acid, then add 1 l of boiling water to this mixture. Waiting for the solution to become warm, I begin to use it. A sweet effect also has a sweet cocktail, for which I take 1 a spoonful of honey and mix it with an 1 glass of water. With this mixture I fill small jars and hang in the greenhouse.

Among my rules, which I have always adhered to over the past few years, I especially want to mention the following: do not resort to the use of pesticides, using them as fertilizing for plants when they enter the phase of flowering and fruiting. Such a restriction is observed so that the fruiting fruits do not contain nitrates, and insect pollinators do not die from the effects of these preparations.

When the plants enter the fruiting phase, I prepare a treat for tomatoes using iodine, ash and boric acid for this. It is done this way: the ash (1,5-2 L) is diluted in 5 l of boiling water, mix well and let cool, and then add more water to the mixture so that the final volume is equal to the 10-tiliter bucket. After this, I pour a bottle of iodine and a bag of boric acid (10 g) to the mixture. Then leave the mixture for infusion for a day. Before I use 1 liter literally, I pour a liter of water in a bucket of water, apply to each plant under the root of 1 l of the working solution. Due to the presence of a multitude of microelements in the composition of this top dressing, the fruiting phase comes earlier, and the plants become resistant to phytophthora.

There are situations when I use manganese instead of iodine, which in no way affects the effectiveness. Thanks to boron, pollen germination improves, without delay and deviations fertilization, tying and development of the fruit takes place. At the same time, one must not forget that the deficit of boron leads to the withering away and the budding of buds. As for manganese, its presence has a positive effect on nitrogen uptake and fruit formation. Usually, its deficiency is felt when growing tomatoes on sandy soils or growing super-early varieties. Along with this, in order to prevent phytophthora I conduct tomato treatment using metronidazole, for which I dilute 2 tablets in 1 l of water.

With the introduction of foliar dressings I am engaged in the evening: the solution, which is brought in at this time of the day, dries much longer. Thanks to the fall in the morning dew, the remainder of the nutrient solution is better absorbed on the surface of the plant.

I think that by presenting your tomatoes this treat, they will feel good and will give you a rich harvest.
