Watering tomatoes

How to water tomatoesOne of the mandatory conditions, the observance of which allows you to expect to receive high yields - ensuring a balanced diet. Plants are able to absorb nutrients only if they come in the form of solutions. In this regard, those who are going to cultivate tomatoes, you should know how to properly water the tomatoes, including how often to water tomatoes in the greenhouse, etc.

The calculation of the norm, as well as the timing of the watering of tomatoes, is done in different ways in each case, where attention is paid to the conditions for growing tomatoes. In order to avoid deviations in development when cultivating tomatoes, they need to create favorable conditions: the humidity should be at the level no higher than 45-50%, and the soil moisture content is 85-90%. To find out if the actual conditions are optimal, you should take the ground at a depth of 5-1 cm: if it can be easily dazzled by a lump that splits easily when pressed lightly, then everything is as it should be.

When excessive moisturizing, the fruits of tomatoes become less sugary, acquire a watery structure, there is a risk of damage to plants by fungal diseases, the appearance of cracks and the loss of fruits. At the same time, the drying up of the land also has a negative effect, if irrigation is not carried out often, then such inconstancy in the supply of water can cause the buds and ovaries to fall apart, the cracks in the fruits, and also the damage to their vertex rot.

How often to water tomatoes

The watering of tomatoes should be infrequent, but at the same time be abundant. If plants are watered with frequent periodicity in small amounts, then this has a bad effect on the growth and development of plants, which is especially important during plant survival to open ground conditions. Excessive amounts of water lead to a decrease in soil temperature and, at the same time, an increase in the relative humidity of air to 80-100%. All this negatively affects the future fruit, as the flowers are worse pollinated and poorly formed ovaries. There are cases when flowers begin to fall apart in large quantities and there is a delay in the growth of plants. Tomato bushes have a fairly developed root system, the roots are located at a depth of 100-150 cm, able to perfectly absorb water and nutrients. In this regard, you can confine yourself to infrequent watering - 2 times a week. And the soil for tomatoes should have such a structure that it can absorb a large amount of moisture.

How to properly water tomatoes

To increase the effectiveness of watering, plants should be irrigated under the root or along the furrows, trying not to let water drip onto the stem, leaves and fruits. It is necessary to do this in order to maintain moisture, leading to the development of fungal diseases, at the optimum level and not to allow leaf burns. If water droplets are present on the leaves, they will turn into lenses - they begin to focus the sun's rays, causing damage to the leaves, which leads to a sprouting of phytophthora in them. If the watering of tomatoes is carried out under the root, then it is possible to observe at once two conditions: the plants receive the necessary amount of moisture and the humidity remains at the same, optimal level. It is not recommended to resort to the method of sprinkling because it negatively affects the growth and development of plants.

For watering tomatoes should always use permanent, warm water, the temperature of which should match the temperature of the soil (preferably 24-26 ° C). Using hose irrigation with cold tap water, it is possible to cause damage to the root system, as well as to lower the temperature and disturb the acid balance. It is best to water the tomato bushes with rainwater: the presence of carbonic acid in it provides a soft effect. Tap water differs sufficient rigidity, to soften it mix with a small amount of manure, compost and harvested weeds.

If in the daytime the sun shines rather brightly, then it is desirable to postpone the watering until evening. The optimal time - a few hours before sunset, nights usually enough to ensure that the water is well absorbed and assimilated by the roots. If the street is overcast, then you can choose any time for watering.

To achieve maintenance of humidity at an optimum level it is possible by means of mulching. Material for this can serve as special films or any remains of organic origin. If we lay straw on the ridge, weeded weeds, compost with a layer of 5 cm, this will help to slow the evaporation of moisture, maintain the top layer in a loose state, reduce the amount of weeds, which creates favorable conditions for growth and increased yield. Organic residues decompose over time, which provides the soil with useful substances and minerals.

When determining the amount of water that must be consumed per plant during one irrigation, they focus on the moisture capacity of the soil, in other words, the ability to retain moisture, as well as the weather conditions, the presence of a mulching layer, and in addition the planting pattern, grade and plant age.

To find out if the amount of water is sufficient for the plants to receive, can their appearance. If there is a deficit of moisture, then the leaves react to this with darkening, and in the heat they begin to wither. When ovaries begin to form on tomato bushes, especially when plants enter the active growth phase, it is necessary to increase the rate of water consumption. In the absence of rain, tomatoes should be watered once a week, spending on each bush of the order of 3-5 liters of water. When plants enter the fruiting phase, it is necessary not to allow soil to dry out, during this period, more frequent watering is carried out - 2 times a week, allocating 3-5 liters for each plant.

When growing stunted and tall varieties adhere to a slightly different scheme of irrigation. When the fruits begin to ripen, stunted varieties begin to water less abundantly, and after a while they stop watering altogether. Acting in this way, it is possible to achieve a harmonious ripening of the fruits and a high quality of the crop, preventing the formation of cracks in tomatoes, their destruction by blight and blotchiness. On plants of tall varieties, both ripening and many growing fruits can be simultaneously formed. In this regard, when the first tomatoes begin to ripen on the first hands, they should still be provided with the usual amount of water. Irrigation of tall varieties is carried out at intervals of 4 days, with one plant spending 10 liters of water. This rate of consumption is considered optimal for obtaining large fruits.

All these factors need to be taken into account when you decide which irrigation regime to adhere to when growing tomatoes.
